The Portage Democratic Coalition (PDC) formed in early 2004 to organize around the Kerry for President campaign. The Portage Democratic Party was in disarray under past chairman Paul Jones who headed the Party at that time. Virtually no organizational structure  existed to undertake the task of defeating George Bush in Portage County. People contacted the local party and were either turned away or their calls were never returned. People like Mike Lee, Chic Canfora, and a host of others took it upon themselves to organize a grassroots campaign comprised of rank and file Democrats to fill the void that existed in the Portage County Democratic Party at that time. The Democratic Party has stepped up under new leadership and is working to improve the organization. The goal of the grassroots activists? To turn out the Democratic vote.  (READ)

We are an organization open to diverse individuals and groups. Our mission is to promote progressive domestic and foreign policies and practices, as well as positive change, at all levels of government and society. We serve as a vehicle for social justice, a source for progressive public policy, and a force for universal access to education and other goods and services.

Everyone interested in keeping a progressive political climate in Portage County is welcome to join us for our meetings.
